RESIDENCIES
FONDAZIONE
ADKINS CHITI: DONNE IN MUSICA

Dear
President,
Please
find below our call for Women Composers or Musicologists for a residency in
Fiuggi, where we have headquarters. I will be delighted to answer any questions
you may have.
Since
2005 we [1] offer
hospitality to visiting scholars and composers of all ages from every part of
the world: Austria, Canada, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Italy, England, France,
Finland, Germany, Portugal, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Rumania, Serbia and
Turkey. All
applicants need a working knowledge of English. Residencies are minimum 1 month
- maximum 6 months. Guests work with our staff for 15 hours a week in research
programmes for publications and digital Encyclopaedia of Women composers,
songwriters and creators of music. Composers are invited to write a new work for
the Foundation’s
concert series. The programme encourages international promotion, collaboration
and capacity building. Application is from 15thFebruary to the
15th April and residencies are offered from June to December. The
basic criterion for our choice is artistic quality; there is no quota-based
selection.
Accommodation
is offered in Fiuggi Città, a medieval village dating to Roman times, in small
apartments within walking distance of our Library. Each apartment has a fully
furnished kitchen, complete with bed linen and towels. Fiuggi is 60 km from
Rome (75 minutes by coach). There is WIFI in central squares and meeting places.
The monthly cost for the artists-in-residence is Euro 900,00 and this covers the
paperwork for
a scholar’s
visa, an insurance policy against accidents, the rental of apartment including
cleaning, laundry, water, gas, electricity, and contribution towards food
expenses
We
need a curriculum and list of works already written (for composers) or research
undertaken (for musicologists) Applicants should state their motivation for
wishing to come to Fiuggi, the nature of the work that they would undertake must
be described and they should provide information about specific expectations as
regards, for example, meeting/dialogue with Italian musicians; ideas for public
presentation of the result of the residency –
a concert or book for example.
In
a period in which Korea is encouraging its artists to expand their horizons,
our Residencies offer opportunities that are unique, in beautiful settings in a
country historically important for its music.
